Barricaded Male in Custody after 3 Hour Stand-off

Yesterday, April 6, 2020 at 11:00 am, Abbotsford Police Patrol officers responded to a rural property on Whelan Road for a report of a man threatening his family.

Shortly after arriving, police located a distraught male outdoors on the property.  The male refused to comply with police direction, and it was believed he had access to firearms.

Over a three-hour period, the Abbotsford Police Department Emergency Response Team, Crisis Negotiators, General Investigation Investigators, Patrol officers and members of Integrated Police Dog Service Unit attended this file.

After continued attempts to communicate with the man, the Emergency Response Team deployed a distraction device followed up with a less lethal use of force option resulting in the man being taken into custody at 2:05pm. 

36-year-old Adam PORSCH has been charged with Threatening to Cause Bodily Harm (s. 264.1(1)(a) of the Criminal Code) and Assault (s.266 of the Criminal Code) and remains in police custody.
