On July 6, 2020, shortly before 3:00 pm, Abbotsford Police received a report of a theft in progress in the area of Fairlane Street.
A worker in a commercial bucket truck was conducting repairs approximately 20 feet above the ground. A male entered the driver’s seat of the truck and began to drive away with the employee still in the extended bucket.
While attempting to flee, the suspect struck the pole that the employee was working on. As the truck came to a brief stop, the employee was able to quickly remove his harness and jump from the raised extended bucket to safety. After disengaging from the pole, then suspect drove into a lamp standard, hit a traffic pole and ripped the bucket from its extension. Thankfully, the employee only sustained minor injuries.
Keen eyed AbbyPD officers located the vehicle nearby, unoccupied. After an extensive search by AbbyPD officers and the Lower Mainland Police Dog Service, the suspect was located and arrested as he attempted to depart in another vehicle. The suspect, wearing a hat with the logo, “Zero ( %&)$ ) Given”, was found to have the stolen truck keys beside his feet on the floor.
The AbbyPD continues to collect evidence to support criminal charges against the 33 year old suspect.
