In late November, the Abbotsford Police Department has become aware that social media posts are being circulated that depicted a typed extortion letter and a ‘Law Enforcement Only’ bulletin that contained a photograph of a male in a car whom the police were seeking to identify.

Abbotsford Police Department’s Traffic Enforcement Unit Launches
“Choose Your Ride”

Today marks the start of British Columbia’s Police Winter CounterAttack Campaign. In BC, on average, 64 people die every year in crashes involving impaired drivers. Approximately 23 percent of all car crash fatalities are related to impaired driving. Last December, Abbotsford Police (AbbyPD) officers removed 75 impaired drivers from our Abbotsford roads.

On December 1st, 2023, at 7:35 a.m. AbbyPD patrol officers responded to the area of Wheel Ave and Townline Rd, Abbotsford, for a reported motor vehicle collision involving a pedestrian.

Upon attendance, first responders provided medical aid to the 43-year-old female who had sustained critical and life-threatening injuries.

In early March of 2023, the AbbyPD General Investigation Section (GIS) began to investigate a historic sexual assault allegation that was reported to the Abbotsford Police Department.

Through investigation and execution of search warrants, AbbyPD’s GIS, with the assistance of Patrol and the Forensic Identification Unit, gathered evidence and identified a 62-year-old male suspect with a pattern of offending that was concerning to the Abbotsford Police Department.

On November 4th, 2023, at 03:19 A.M., AbbyPD patrol members responded to a reported shots fired call in the 600 block of McCallum Rd, Abbotsford. Within a ten-minute timeframe, a second shots fired call was reported around the 2100 block of Martens Rd, Abbotsford.

AbbyPD Crime Reduction Unit Arrests Prolific Work Van Theft Suspect

In late January 2023, the AbbyPD Crime Reduction Unit (CRU) began to investigate a series of twenty-two vehicle thefts. These incidents involved the theft of work vans, which often contained thousands of dollars of tools which multiple victims required for their employment and more importantly required to earn a living. These occurrences were of great concern to police due to the substantial impact it was having on the victims, their families, and their businesses.

In late June 2023, the AbbyPD Crime Reduction Unit (CRU) began to investigate a series of residential Break and Enters that occurred during daytime hours. These occurrences were of great concern to police due to the heightened risk of the homeowners being present during the offence, in some cases interrupting the suspects before they fled.

On October 2nd, 2023, at 2:28 A.M., an AbbyPD patrol officer observed a white pickup truck with a large fuel tank in the truck's bed spilling fuel onto the roadway in the Huntingdon Rd and Ross Rd area.

The suspect vehicle failed to stop when the member engaged their emergency equipment to conduct a traffic stop. The officer did not engage in a pursuit and relayed the description and direction of the suspect vehicle to other members.

AbbyPD catch suspects following armed robbery

On September 30th, 2023, at 11:32 P.M., AbbyPD patrol officers were alerted to a robbery occurring at a retail store after closing hours in the 2800 block of Gladwin Rd.

Members in the area observed the described getaway vehicle fleeing the area and pursued the vehicle which plates showed as being stolen.

Public Safety Notification - September 29, 2023

The Abbotsford Police Department is issuing a public notification in the interest of public safety.  Hugh Alexander MCCURRY was released from Powell River on September 29th, 2023, on a  release order, and will be residing in the Abbotsford area.

MCCURRY has a criminal history that includes past convictions for sexual offences against children in 2001, 2004, 2007 and 2016.

Sept. 16th UPDATE: Stabbing in Abbotsford result of Intimate Partner Violence

On Saturday, September 16th, 2023, at 6:49 PM, AbbyPD responded to a reported stabbing at a residential complex in the 1900 block of McCallum Rd. The event resulted in two victims being rushed to hospital with life-threatening stab wounds and the suspect being arrested and transported to hospital with serious, self-inflicted injuries.
As a result of the investigation led by AbbyPD’s Major Crime Unit, 33-year-old Tu Cuong Tran is facing two counts of aggravated assault.
