Warmer weather means that windows and doors are often kept open to allow fresh cooler air into our homes.  Unfortunately, this often brings out opportunistic thieves and we begin to notice an increase in break and enters at this time of the year.

Officer’s quick thinking lands fleeing male in custody for parole violation and parental abduction

A Valemount, BC man is in custody for Parole violation and parental abduction due to the quick thinking and keen observational skills of an off-duty AbbyPD Operational Support Officer .   

Yesterday afternoon, the 51 year old man left his residence with his 8 year old son in a silver minivan.  At 4 am this morning, as the AbbyPD officer headed home after shift, she recognized the minivan’s license plate from an earlier briefing.

Traffic Reconstruction Unit investigating collision involving motorcycle

Last night at approximately 8:00 pm, Abbotsford Emergency Services responded to the intersection of Clearbrook Road and Sherwood Road for a single vehicle crash involving a motorcycle.  The motorcyclist hit a sidewalk curb, lost control of the motorcycle, and struck a light standard.

Between May and June, D-hut Pizza on Clearbrook Road was robbed three times.  On each occasion, the suspect entered the store and demanded money at knife point, obtaining cash and fleeing from the area on foot.

For a second night in a row a residence in the 2700 block of Interprovincial Rd has been targeted by gunfire. 

On June 8th, at approximately 3:00 am, the Abbotsford Police responded to a residence in the 2700 block of Interprovincial Rd for reports of shots fired.

Shot fired at vehicle, 7 in custody 

Last night at approximately 10:30 pm, Abbotsford Police patrol officers responded to a  report of shots fired at an unoccupied vehicle. 

The target vehicle was parked at a rural residence in south-east Abbotsford.  After the shot was fired, the suspect vehicle, followed by 2 others, fled the area.

Tuesday evening, at approximately 8:50 pm, an Abbotsford Police patrol officer observed a Nissan Altima travelling at approximately 130 km/hr on Downes Road.  The Altima was also observed passing another vehicle on a double solid line.

Police Seek Witnesses in Gas Station Robbery

The Abbotsford Police Department is seeking witnesses to a robbery which occurred at the Shell gas station on Harris Road at approximately 3:30 pm on Saturday, May 25th. On this date, a male walked up to the cashier, produced a gun and demanded money. The suspect obtained an undisclosed amount of cash and fled the scene on foot.

On May 31, 2019, the Abbotsford Police Department will be partnering with IRSU
(Integrated Road Safety Unit), WorkSafeBC, and the Work Zone Safety Alliance to raise
awareness about the risks workers face while working on, or alongside, our roadways.
The goal of the Cone Zone Campaign, now in its ninth year, is to prevent injuries and
death of roadside workers by reminding all motorists to obey the law when approaching a cone zone.

Update- stamp owner located

The Abbotsford Police Department is pleased to advise that the stamp collection found earlier this week by a Good Samaritan has been returned to its rightful owner – the Abbotsford chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star. This stamp collection had been donated to the fraternal society by a stamp collector, and was stolen from a Masonic Hall last Thursday during a meeting.

Rifle seized during warrant arrest

On May 22, 2019, plain clothes officers in the Abbotsford Police Department Crime
Reduction Unit observed a vehicle being operated by a male who was known to be a
prohibited driver. Due to the subject’s previous dangerous driving behavior, officers
surveilled the vehicle until it stopped in a Chilliwack parking lot, and the occupant, 39 yearold Tyler HOULE exited.

Abbotsford Emergency Services were called to a residence in the 2200 block of Bedford Pl. for a vehicle on fire. Upon arrival, Abbotsford Fire Rescue Service located a fully-engulfed minivan near the residence. Fire crews found smoke in the garage and attic areas of the home, but were able to quickly extinguish the fire in the residence.
