Deemed "Grandparent Scams," our analysts have noticed a trend of scammers posing as lawyers targeting seniors between the ages of 72-92 years old.

On November 4th, 2023, at 03:19 A.M., AbbyPD patrol members responded to a reported shots fired call in the 600 block of McCallum Rd, Abbotsford. Within a ten-minute timeframe, a second shots fired call was reported around the 2100 block of Martens Rd, Abbotsford.

In late January 2023, the AbbyPD Crime Reduction Unit (CRU) began to investigate a series of twenty-two vehicle thefts. These incidents involved the theft of work vans, which often contained thousands of dollars of tools which multiple victims required for their employment and more importantly required to earn a living. These occurrences were of great concern to police due to the substantial impact it was having on the victims, their families, and their businesses.

In late June 2023, the AbbyPD Crime Reduction Unit (CRU) began to investigate a series of residential Break and Enters that occurred during daytime hours. These occurrences were of great concern to police due to the heightened risk of the homeowners being present during the offence, in some cases interrupting the suspects before they fled.

On October 2nd, 2023, at 2:28 A.M., an AbbyPD patrol officer observed a white pickup truck with a large fuel tank in the truck's bed spilling fuel onto the roadway in the Huntingdon Rd and Ross Rd area.
The suspect vehicle failed to stop when the member engaged their emergency equipment to conduct a traffic stop. The officer did not engage in a pursuit and relayed the description and direction of the suspect vehicle to other members.

On September 30th, 2023, at 11:32 P.M., AbbyPD patrol officers were alerted to a robbery occurring at a retail store after closing hours in the 2800 block of Gladwin Rd.
Members in the area observed the described getaway vehicle fleeing the area and pursued the vehicle which plates showed as being stolen.
The Abbotsford Police Department is issuing a public notification in the interest of public safety. Hugh Alexander MCCURRY was released from Powell River on September 29th, 2023, on a release order, and will be residing in the Abbotsford area.
MCCURRY has a criminal history that includes past convictions for sexual offences against children in 2001, 2004, 2007 and 2016.

On Saturday, September 16th, 2023, at 6:49 PM, AbbyPD responded to a reported stabbing at a residential complex in the 1900 block of McCallum Rd. The event resulted in two victims being rushed to hospital with life-threatening stab wounds and the suspect being arrested and transported to hospital with serious, self-inflicted injuries.
As a result of the investigation led by AbbyPD’s Major Crime Unit, 33-year-old Tu Cuong Tran is facing two counts of aggravated assault.

On September 16, 2023, at 6:49 P.M., AbbyPD patrol officers responded to a residential
complex in the 1900 block of McCallum Rd for a reported weapons call.
Arriving at the scene, members encountered two victims suffering from what appeared
to be serious and life-threatening stab wounds. With the assistance of Abbotsford Fire
Rescue Service and BC Ambulance Service, members provided life-sustaining
measures to the victims, who were transported to the hospital.

On September 12th, 2023, at 7:59 P.M., Abbotsford Patrol members responded to Lefeuvre Rd and Huntingdon Rd intersection, in Abbotsford BC, for a reported motor vehicle collision involving two vehicles that had collided head-on.
Arriving at the scene, AbbyPD patrol members, along with members of the BC Ambulance Service and Abbotsford Fire Rescue Service, rendered aid to the drivers involved, a 49-year-old male and a 29-year-old female who were transported to hospital with serious and life-threatening injuries respectively.

On September 12th, 2023, at 11:28 P.M., AbbyPD patrol members responded to a collision between a motor vehicle and a pedestrian in the 33000 block of Gladys Avenue in Abbotsford, BC.
Arriving at the scene, members observed a male pedestrian suffering from serious injuries and immediately began rendering aid. BC Ambulance Service and Abbotsford Fire Rescue Service were also on scene, providing life support procedures to the 35-year-old male victim who, despite best efforts, could not be resuscitated and succumbed to the injuries.

Today, August 29th, 2023, at 1:53 PM, AbbyPD patrol officers responded to a suspicious circumstance reported in the area of Nadeau Park in the 3000 block of Townline Road, Abbotsford.
Officers at the scene located a 46-year-old female suffering from what appeared to be stab wounds.The female victim was transported to the hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.

The Abbotsford Police Board is announcing the appointment of Colin Watson as the new Chief Constable of the Abbotsford Police Department. Chief Designate Watson will assume the role from retiring Chief Constable Mike Serr on November 15, 2023.

On August 5th, 2023, at 2:45 AM, AbbyPD patrol officers responded to a report of a caller having heard gunshots in the 3700 block of Nicola Street, Abbotsford, BC.
Patrols of the area had officers locating what appeared to be bullet holes in an unoccupied parked vehicle with shell casings on the ground nearby the vehicle. No evidence was located at the scene to suggest anyone had been struck inside or outside of the vehicle. The owner of the vehicle has been contacted by police and is cooperating with officers.
